Here’s Chapter 1
We’re aiming to help with scaffolding learning in the classroom using app making as the vehicle across any area of the curriculum. Children love making and publishing apps so why not?
Below you’ll see a screenshot of Planet Blippit where we’ve published a template project app for children to adapt and make their own. Here’s how YOU can do this for any topic and any subject.
To get the Heart Fitness App Project Template
- download it from Planet Blippit, Blippit Academy or directly here
- follow this video of how to download then upload a template into Blippit App Maker.
Blippit is introducing a powerful new single-sign-on option for Microsoft Office 365 school users globally and what’s more it’s a free upgrade.
If your school already uses Office 365 to access various tools, such as email, then you’ll benefit from this in a few ways.
- your school log in for Office 365 is all you need to use Blippit
- faster and smoother starts to lessons so more time for app making, computational thinking & collaborating
- one less username and password to remember
What is Blippit?
We’ve got a HQ in England and Australia which means people don’t always know what Blippit is when search engines or other schools send them our way so here’s the low-down on what we have got going on in our coding and computational thinking journey.
- App Maker
Drag and drop or do some mark up language then publish your apps to Planet Blippit with your teacher’s approval and individualised feedback.
Drag and drop block programming to stimulate those computational thinking brain cells and even see the Python code behind the scenes. Create projects personalised to scaffold learning concepts for your children and much more to promote collaboration.
- PureCode Python
The next step along the coding journey from Blippit Blocks with a focus on text based programming using Python. Start with a blank Turtle project or create projects yourself to scaffold learning concepts for your students to use.
The simplest and safest web based video conferencing tool available designed to support learning where experts are brought ‘virtually’ in to class or where classes link up to share learning. School firewall friendly.
Try Blippit out with the Office 365 Integration
Here’s how to do it if you want to find out more and link your school’s Office 365 with your Blippit account. Just click the button.

Written to go hand in glove with Blippit’s App Maker over a half-term including video links and more for use in class.
Also included is a bonus mini-unit that we suggest you use as a ‘warm up’ lesson to heighten awareness of and increase ‘code curiosity’ in the children.
It’s all step-by-step with ready-to-go plans and videos built in so depending on your confidence level you can use it as is or do a bit of computing jazz and give it your own flavour.

App Maker Privacy
Administrators can now choose whether or not to publish a student’s app onto Planet Blippit
App Maker Animation
We have re-designed both the Image Widget and Slideshow Widget so that you can now upload animated Gif files into your app. These clever little files can be seen on any mobile device and have seen a resurgence in popularity recently. Here’s an example of such an animated gif featuring Blippit IO PureCode Python.
Here’s another showing animated images in the rebuilt Slideshow Widget. Don’t watch them too long though or you may go a bit mad.
Image Widget Editor
Upload and press ‘Edit Image’ to open up the powerful image editor right there in Blippit IO App Maker. Add text, Instagram-type filters, stickers and more sophisticated effects with ease and speed. This in it’s own right transforms what users can creatively achieve in their app projects.
*free accounts are not available for home-school arrangements or schools using single-sign on platforms in the UK. Schools using single0-sign on setups can of course register outside of their single sign-on platform but they would then have to log in outside of their normal habits and subsequently have more than a single sign on account to manage.
