Fully Revised Yr 6 Unit for Summer 2016

Written to go hand in glove with Blippit’s App Maker over a half-term including video links and more for use in class.

Also included is a bonus mini-unit that we suggest you use as a ‘warm up’ lesson to heighten awareness of and increase ‘code curiosity’ in the children.

It’s all step-by-step with ready-to-go plans and videos built in so depending on your confidence level you can use it as is or do a bit of computing jazz and give it your own flavour.

New 2016 App Maker Tour Video

This longer video is for schools just starting out with the App Maker this summer 2016 & it’s been done to link up with our totally revised planning unit for year 6.

Some people find it easier having everything in one video instead of smaller chunks but you can click the built in navigation buttons (if watching on a laptop in Youtube) to jump about the video to see different chapters and save time. (YouTube version below & school filter friendly version is below that)

Blippit IO Free Version Project Limits Change

Since we started doing the free version of Blippit IO we’ve been so pleased at the response and uptake from thousands of users.  It was the right thing to do for everyone what with time-limited trials being a headache for everyone.

This weekend we did the cloud equivalent of a full skeleton transplant with Blippit IO.  It was pretty intense but in order to enable schools who were behind older proxy servers it had to be done and hopefully it will pay off for those schools now who may not even realise the restrictions being applied to their web use.

All things for a reason though we like to think.  As part of the ‘transplant’ we also had to re-allocate a big chunk of Blippit’s resources to ensure that schools who had upgraded to unlimited everything were getting the best service possible.  We’re really pleased with the results now even though we had to skim some resources from our many lovely free Blippit users.

Thankfully the re-allocation has been managed well and the upshot is that by reducing the project cap from 15 to 10 per free school account we’ve balanced our resources out.  It’s a shame we can’t do more for our free users but hopefully groups and individuals can still do what they need to do on the free version.  We’ve updated our terms of use to reflect this change as of 19/5/16

Improve response rates mid year on Ofsted Parent View Questions & other surveys too!

FlierIf, like us, you know that it’s ‘a bit challenging’ sometimes to get parents to fill in the mid-year Parent Survey that you’ve created based upon Ofsted’s Parent View form, this may be an innovative approach that will go down well.

FREE TO BLIPPIT SOCIAL SCHOOLS!
This is very low friction from a parent point of view because school is already engaging parents via Facebook so delivering and completing the survey actually ‘in’ Facebook makes the process nice and easy.

Data collection and collation is all taken care of too.  The moment a parent hit’s SEND your data is saved and automatically presented for easy interpretation by SLT & Governors.

FAQs

No. This was just an example of a survey that we created.  You can survey parents on any topic you need to at any time
Yes. You can have unlimited space for comments.
Easily done – give out a school code/password to each family by text or letter and make entering that code a part of the survey.
A survey can be set up to cater for either.
We can include a compulsory question for people to enter their full family name so as not to rely on a Facebook profile names which may in the odd case be less helpful. Knowing who has responded and who hasn’t will be much simpler. Participation in surveys can also be incentivised via FB – i.e. we can use a prize draw feature to generate a random winner as a ‘thanks for participating’.
This is a free and ‘on demand’ service to all schools who use our Blippit Social service.  Schools who don’t use our Blippit Social Service can buy in ti Social Surveys at the rates below.  (Small school discount of 20% applies if you’re a Nursery, Infant or Juniors only school)

  2. Below is one version of a survey which would normally just be seen in Facebook so that parents don’t get stressed moving off to another website but for this blog post we’ve placed it here as well.  You’re welcome to fill it in to get a feel for it 🙂

Blippit May 30-31st at Edu TECH AU Brisbane Stand 142

EdTechAU

We’re so pleased and thrilled to be exhibiting at EduTech 2016 on Stand 142 this month in Brisbane, Australia.  At the last event in Sydney, Craig Wallace was non-stop answering questions, giving demos and listening to Australian educationalists for 48 hours.

At the Edu Tech event in Brisbane near our AU Offices, there’ll be more people on the stand and hopefully Craig may even get chance to grab a couple of minutes for a coffee at some point.

Craig would love to see you there if you’re in the neighbourhood and if you’ve met him before, had a free account and want to follow up with Blippit this is the ideal situation to do that.

For now though please send your positive vibes again over again to Blippit on Stand 142 – they really helped last time.
